Collaborations

kunstpassanten makes a point of furthering a variety of collaborations in order to support and advance the project. Fundamental collaborations exist with the Fabriktheater Rote Fabrik and the Institute for Contemporary Arts Research (IFCAR) at the Zurich University of the Arts. Both contribute to the scientific and financial support of the project.

Collaboration with the Fabriktheater Rote Fabrik

kunstpassanten is included in the 2009/2010 season (October 2009 – June 2010) as a part of the annual program of the Fabriktheater. Within Zurich’s cultural landscape, the Fabriktheater represents a “place for artistic experiments” that shall stimulate the transdisciplinary dialogue between different genres. The offer of including kunstpassanten in the annual program clearly supports this keynote and is to be considered another step in this direction.

In the season of 2008/2009, with Feldforschung (Field Research) by Gerber and Luz, the Fabriktheater already approached the topic of the perception of public space through special forms of observation, including walks. By collaborating with kunstpassanten, the Fabriktheater aims at a further advancement of this already launched scientific process as well as at broadening the visual angle of the topic by integrating a visual arts perspective.

Collaboration with the ifcar

‘Art in the Public Space’ is an area of research, inquired by the Institute for Contemporary Arts Research (IFCAR). Its focus lies on how art can reflect and recreate contemporary public concerns through genuine artistic contributions.

The reason for the collaboration of IFCAR with kunstpassanten arises out of the common interest in the analysis of the development of public space by means of artistic intervention. That said, the IFCAR was especially intrigued by the method of ‘be-walking’ of the public sphere, suggested by kunstpassanten.

This method is borrowed partly from the specific science developed by Swiss urbanist Lucius Burckhardt known as Strollology. It represents a supplement to the workings of the IFCAR within the field of the present artistic-theoretical discussion of civic space. With this in mind, the IFCAR has decided to support kunstpassanten in a financial as well as scientific way.
